Tecrar S1E1: Literal Tecnocrats

Welcome to the very first weekly recap of VMC-Tec server! Before you ask, yes, the server has been running since late 2019 and I am aware this post is long overdue. Episode 1 not being a recap of Week 1 will bother most of us, but let's not focus on it. For my defense, I have been trying to run a recording software on a laptop (which is barely stronger than a toaster) in order to start a YouTube channel. As you can guess the temperature of my laptop was as high as a working toaster and all I could do was to record a psychedelic slideshow. I finally gave up my dreams to save your eye health and to avoid triggering someone's epilepsy seizures; so here I am with a blog! I hope you enjoy what I do here!

Anyways, enough of me being salty.

In the last weeks, many amazing people decided to be a part of our community. The addition of new creative minds paid off as more and more buildings started to pop up all around the server. On the other hand, the diamond race with even more people forced them to come up with products to introduce to the diamond cycle. With the increasing demand of products, the spawn island started to outgrow itself: New shops, new minigames, new communal buildings, and a Simon machine as Kaeden names it. The chaotic evolution of the spawn island had to be regulated.

All of these led to the first server-wide meeting since the server's opening event. Tecnocrats (formally called Board of Directors) decided to meet once a month to discuss on server-related issues.

The entire meeting went smoothly if you ignore blowing TNT, raining people, and a piece of seeds haunting the land over the graves of grass. First order of business was of course to deal with the lack of space in the spawn region. Here are the results of the votes:
  1. Such Board of Directors meetings will be held monthly. Well, this has not been voted but it's an important piece of information. I had to put it somewhere.
  2. Pathways in the spawn area will be left as is. Currently it's a jumble of grass paths, gravel roads, wooden slabs and a dock. I guess it wouldn't look as lively if there were a standard for all walking roads.
  3. All new nether highways will be built on top of the nether roof. Even though it's a good decision to make transportation easier and faster, it hurts to know the existing highways will be used less frequently.
  4. Old, unused shops may be removed, if voted on in another meeting. TecTower should start to finally attract some customers not to be bulldozed.
  5. A competition called Teclympics will take place every three months. Any server member can participate and/or create a challenge for the competition. It is agreed to not have a dedicated area for all challenges, so it will also act as a mini server tour. Besides having opening and closing ceremonies, there will be an official Teclympics beacon.
  6. XiadMabsax will pay a dozen of diamond blocks and a kidney to to the spawn island. I mean, shops will now pay for the land they use. These diamonds will go to the prize pool to Teclympics.
  7. In order to regulate all these rules, Board of Directors will elect a chair(cat) every month.
This month, four spectacular candidates (and XiadMabsax) has been voted for. Members took the name Tecnocrat too seriously, and decided to elect a physicist as the chair of the first interval. Congratulations to TecThor!

KaedenCraft giving a sad speech after the meeting (later 2020, colorized)

Not reaching his electoral goals, KaedenCraft temporarily gave up politics and found himself a new career. Captain Blabberschmack (formerly known as KaedenCraft) devoted himself to shepherding and visual arts. He added a sheep head to his brutal collection in the debatably-underground parts of Kaeden Heavy Industries. Later he listened to the call of art, drawing a treasure map for some hostage goods of TheSpaceCher. All I know is that the prank Cher-ed her up. ba dumm tsss!

Fidlybits and amrluca yeehawing together in a sunset.

During all these, there was Fidlybits yeehawing in the distance. Having started taming an army of llamas, he proceeded to gather all sorts of four-legged animals inside his open-air barn. It's a widely-known fact that moving a Minecraft mob is one of the most stressful things to do, but science still can't explain how he ended up on a pillar in the process. Though he claims being kept hostage by a zombie isn't a proud moment, I find it impressive how things turned out. I hope the profits from a potential yeehaw shop is worth the struggle.

Holiest crafting table of all times.

Speaking of struggle, Avyn's adventure to have a starter base has been interrupted by rude skeletons. Her dedicated base location is conforming social distancing rules with the spawn island, however she learned the way home after travelling one-way a couple of times. Having a yet-another unlucky encounter with a ravine she found, she decided to create her own mine instead. I admire the sheer dedication to work on such a large-scale starting base without even getting a diamond pickaxe, so I will censor her building in return to encourage you to go see it yourself!

Half of the mining base.

Lastly, a wild abomination appeared in the middle of the shopping district, teasing everyone with a wastefully-expensive roof. The Simon game BLUFF is a shop where I promise something every week, except I only keep my word half the time. Last week I promised to sell a diamond block for a shocking price of 4 diamonds, and Wolfboy248 was the only one to believe me! (He won himself 5 free diamonds!) The promise is refreshed for Week 2!

Definitely 100% reliable and trustworthy shop, BLUFF

To sum up, this was the week Tecnocrats established democracy. We will see how it will work out, how many pranks we will uncover and what the members will come up with to further improve our community. It's hard to predict even the next day on the server, as everyone likes themselves some pranks :)

That said, as this is my first blog entry, you have probably read a terrible piece of writing. If you have any ideas how I can improve Tecrars, or if you think I forgot to mention something, please let me know! Until next week, see you!

  5. I agree with Ani that this is a huge help for people like myself who don't get the time to catch up with what's going on unless I scroll through the Discord group. All in all, a brilliant read Xiad nd I look forward to the latest recap and what mischief might follow =).
